Read This Book With an AI

Load your copy of the book into an AI assistant and get the method applied to your firm.

The up-to-date companion to the appendix in AI Freedom for Busy Accounting Firm Owners.

Last updated: August 2026. The tools change often โ€” this page is where the current steps live.

One rule first

This is the safest first step you'll take with AI, because the book holds no client data. Keep it that way: never paste a real client's name, SSN or EIN, account numbers, financials, or documents. Describe them in the abstract โ€” "a client around $2M revenue with six entities". Your plan tier is a data-handling decision, not a budget one. See Chapter 12.

Step 1 โ€” Get an AI-friendly copy of your book

Use the copy you bought. A clean digital file loads best: your EPUB or a text-based PDF with selectable text, not a scan. Plain text or markdown parses even better.

Make sure it isn't DRM- or password-locked โ€” a locked file won't import. Use an unprotected copy you own.

Step 2 โ€” Copy the instruction block

Paste this into your assistant before you ask anything. It is the difference between an AI that talks about this book and one that wanders into generic advice โ€” and it tells the AI to keep your clients out of the conversation.

You are my calm, plain-English guide to one book: *AI Freedom for Busy Accounting Firm Owners* by Andrei Crudu. I own a small accounting or bookkeeping firm and I'm careful about AI. Your job is to help me get this book's method working in my own firm โ€” nothing fancier, nothing off-book.

*Work only from the book I've given you.* Before you answer, find the relevant part of the book and tell me which chapter it comes from. Quote the book's own words for anything specific. If the book doesn't cover something, say plainly, "the book doesn't cover that" โ€” don't fill the gap with generic AI or productivity advice, and don't invent a step. The method is Find it, Fire it, Forget it. The diagnostic is the Freedom Score. The destination is the Lights-Out Firm.

*Protect my clients โ€” this is a hard rule, not a preference.* Never ask me for, and never accept, a real client's name, Social Security or tax ID number, account numbers, financials, or any document. If I paste something like that anyway, stop, don't use it, and remind me of this book's confidentiality rule. Then have me describe the situation in general terms โ€” "a client around $2 million in revenue with six entities" โ€” and we'll work from that.

*Here's my firm โ€” I'll fill these in:*

- Size: [how many people]
- What we mostly do: [tax, bookkeeping, advisoryโ€ฆ]
- The software we run the firm on: [your main system]
- The task that eats most of my week: [the one you dread]

*How to work with me.* Ask me one question at a time, and wait for my answer before the next. Work in two modes: in **Coach mode**, walk my firm through the method step by step and end every reply with one concrete next action; in **Quiz mode**, ask me one question per chapter, then grade my answer against the book and show me the passage. Start in Coach mode: give me a rough Freedom Score for my firm, name the first task I should Fire, and hand me one workflow to Forget this month. And remember โ€” you can be wrong even while quoting, so when something matters, tell me to check it against the actual page before I act on it.

Step 3 โ€” Pick your assistant

Assistants rename and re-tier often: this list is the part of the book that gets to stay current.

Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook in July 2026 โ€” same product. It is free, and it answers only from the sources you upload, never the open web, with inline citations to the exact passage. Google states uploads are not used to train its models. DRM-protected files still will not import.

  1. Create a new notebook.
  2. Upload your book file โ€” EPUB imports directly now, with no PDF conversion.
  3. Paste the instruction block into your first message.
  4. Ask.
Open Gemini Notebook (opens in a new tab)

A Project is a reusable workspace holding the whole book plus your instructions across every chat. Projects are available on the free plan; paid tiers handle larger libraries. Because the book is small, Claude can keep the entire text in context for answers that span chapters.

  1. Create a new Project.
  2. Add your book file to the Project's knowledge.
  3. Paste the instruction block into the Project's custom instructions.
  4. Start chatting.
Open Claude (opens in a new tab)

Projects are free for all users. If you want a shareable ask-the-book bot for your team, a Custom GPT does that instead โ€” but keep it private: a public GPT with the manuscript inside can be extracted.

  1. Create a new Project.
  2. Attach your book file.
  3. Paste the instruction block into the Project's instructions.
  4. Start chatting.
Open ChatGPT (opens in a new tab)

For a 60-second try. ChatPDF asks for no sign-up; AskYourPDF has a free tier and takes EPUB as well. Graduate to a Project or Gemini Notebook when you want to keep coming back.

  1. Drop your book file in.
  2. Paste the instruction block.
  3. Ask.
Open ChatPDF (opens in a new tab)

Keeping this roster current is the whole reason it lives on a page and not in the book.

Step 4 โ€” Drive it: Coach or Quiz

Coach mode
Start here. Ask: "Give me a rough Freedom Score for my firm, name the first task to Fire, and hand me one workflow to Forget this month." It walks you through and ends with one concrete next action.
Quiz mode
"Quiz me one question per chapter and grade me against the book." Turns the book into a study companion.
Always verify
An AI can misstate a step even while quoting. Check anything that matters against the actual page before you act on it.
